Student Dress Code

Shirts and Blouses
- any solid color
Collared shirts with no emblem, turtlenecks, and oxford-type shirts; tops must be one solid color and tucked in at all times.  KIS logos, the Kannapolis K or a brand logo smaller than thumb size may be worn.

 

Bottom Wear - black, navy blue or khaki

Boys may wear shorts, cargo shorts or pants.  Girls may wear shorts, cargo shorts, pants, capri pants, skirts, or jumpers.  Sweatpants, denim jeans, skinny jeans, leggings, jeggings, and other form-fitting bottoms are not allowed.  Bottoms must be a twill-like material, corduroy or dress material. Bottom wear with more than one color are not allowed.  The length of shorts and skirts may be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee. Pants with holes or chains, logos, decorative embroidery or appliqués, frays or patches are not allowed. Tights or other form-fitting attire may be worn under approved bottom wear.

 

Belts - Belts are encouraged for pants with belt loops.  

 

Sweaters, Sweatshirts, and Undershirts

Sweaters,sweatshirts, and visible undershirts must be white, gray, or one of the uniform colors specific to the student’s grade level.  Sweatshirts may not have “kangaroo” pockets. Logos, slogans and insignia are not allowed other than a Kannapolis “K”, school logo or thumb size or smaller brand logo.  Sweatshirts should have banded waists and not be oversized.  School sweatshirts are available for purchase.

 

Jackets

Jackets may not be baggy or oversized and may not be worn in class unless the student’s teacher approves.  “Hoodies” are not to be worn in the building at any time. 

 

Shoes

Shoes may not have open toes or open heels, or any rolling mechanism.  They must be tied or properly fastened (Velcro straps in place) at all times.  No flip-flops.  Heels should not exceed 1 inch in height.  Athletic shoes are recommended for our students as they often have recess or PE class during the week.

 

Headwear

Headwear – including bandanas, do-rags, headbands, scarves, hats and combs – may not be worn on campus.  However,on cold days, it is acceptable for students to wear hats as they arriveat school, leave in the afternoons, or play outside at recess.

 

Body Piercings / Jewelry

Body piercings other than the ear are not allowed.  Excessive jewelry, large or expensive jewelry should not be worn. "Silly Bands" are not allowed.   

 

Leggings / Long Socks

Girls may wear leggings or long socks with skirts or jumpers.  Leggings or long socks should be one solid color.  Skirts and jumpers should still be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee even when leggings are worn.
